ABOUT ME
Hikari Sandhu, Ph.D., RMT.
Born and raised in Yokohama, Kanagawa.
Hikari is of British-Indian and Japanese descent.
Singing has been her resource for a healthy life since she was little.
Hikari studies studies music therapy in Senzoku-Gakuen College of Music (B.A. in Arts) and New York University (M.A. in Music Therapy).

During her undergraduate study, she worked with children with disabilities and people with dementia.
She moved to the U.S. after her undergraduate and enrolled in the master's program at New York University. Hikari studied Hospice Music Therapy at NYU and worked as an intern music therapist at MJHS Hospice and Palliative Care (home-based hospice).

In 2016, she returned to Japan and started working for the palliative care unit at a general hospital in Yokohama city, Japan.
​
Hikari enrolled in a doctoral program at the Department of Community and Global Health at the University of Tokyo in 2017. Her doctoral study focused on the use of community choir as a health resource for senior citizens, and during her research, she explored her interest in medical anthropology.
​
Hikari has worked for the Institute for Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo, SheepMedical Ltd, and NTT DATA Management and Consulting.
​
In 2024, she founded MusicAid to pursue her passion for exploring the possibility of using music and the arts for people in need.
